Year 3 and 4
The focus in Years 3/4 is to provide an environment where we facilitate exciting, enriching activities that foster students’ teamwork as well as their individual talents and strengths. Programs for students are personalised for literacy and numeracy and while working collaboratively with research for inquiry projects.
During 3/4 students learn to become more organised and independent, developing the ability to plan and manage their time effectively. We provide targeted teaching with real life, open-ended problem based tasks.
Students are explicitly taught the strategies to monitor, predict, questions, visualise, infer, determine importance, summarise and synthesise text. They learn how to write the various genres and the 6+1 Traits of writing. Students are also given various opportunities to give formal presentations, have discussions and debates and share ideas and opinions.
The aim is for all students to explore mathematical knowledge and concepts and develop ways of thinking that will help them confidently relate, apply and solve mathematical problems in everyday life.
Students in Years 3 and 4 have access to their own netbook to complement, enhance and further their learning. They are encouraged to use ICT to visualise ideas, create digital products communicate on-line.
